Welcoming September

Wait- so you mean to tell me that August is over like tomorrow? I know fall weather and season won’t roll around till Octoberish but I cannot believe September begins oh so soon. How is it already Labor Day weekend?! Time man- it’s crazy.

As you may or may not know, I work 7am-5pm Monday through Thursday thus never work Fridays (score- I know). Yesterday we were let out at 2pm- WAHOO. Hello, extra long weekend. I could not be more excited. So many empty hours to fill with good times.

This post is filled with my plans, expectations, and some soul searching I’ve been doing.

NEW Kitchen Equipment Excitement!

I had a gift card to Macy’s that I had been holding onto- waiting to decide on the things I absolutely wanted/needed/had to have. After browsing online recipes and thinking about all the possibilities for fall and winter cooking- I narrowed down what I was going to get.

Let me tell you, I’m pretty amped. Like, I’m in house wife heaven.

(shout out to my amazing Aunt who bestowed this gift card upon me for my birthday)

Here’s the run down of my new kitchen equipment
that you will see put to good use in in future posts:

Open Faced Grilled Cheese

So I realize my food posts have been relatively sweet and breakfast heavy. I think it’s time for some savory action. I swear I eat other meals. Here is proof of this.

Grilled cheese. One of the best sandwiches- and the most simple. I decided to up the anty on this classic. Based on pins floating around on pinterest, I set out to make a “big kid grilled cheese” including cheddar cheese, tomato, spinach, and avocado.

2 [Stolen] Sweet Recipes

Often I am inspired by the blog posts and magazine articles that my eyes come across.

This week I’ve been inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Kelly of Eat Yourself Skinny and Self Magazine’s recipe of the week (I got this recipe via email and couldn’t find it on their site- but linked to their “food & diet” page)

Kelly gave me the idea for a “Tropical Pudding” dessert, which includes the flavors of rum, coconut, lime, and pineapple. And Self Magazine gave me the idea for a new topping for whole grain waffles, which includes the flavors of raspberry and orange.

Do you think you can handle this? Cue drooling. Continue reading

4 Days of Family & Dunkin

Ah, going home. Well- home is a pretty weird concept these days. Home to me not only means my apartment here in DC, but my ORIGINAL home where I grew up in Massachusetts. So confusing for my brain [and heart]. I spent the last 4 days in MA with my family (hence why you haven’t heard from me in a while) and had the best time.

Below are some photo highlights of my trip. As always I wish I took more pictures but I tend to get wrapped up in moments and forget I have the ability to forever remember them by taking a picture. Such is life. Thank God for mental photographs. Continue reading

Massachusetts Here I Come!

(be sure to check out one of my workouts I laid out for you below)

My dearest readers- I am going to leave you again for an extended weekend. But this lil vacation is to my favorite place in the world- MASSACHUSETTS

Words cannot describe my excitement. I can’t wait to spend time with my family.
We have plans to go to the beach and go to a red sox game so obviously I am set.

I’m not going to lie, I feel some slight anxiety about being in a place where I can’t buy my own food, make all my own meals, and knowing I’m going to over indulge a little.

BUT I’m taking my own advice and reminding myself that I know what I’m doing and am in complete control over what I eat and how much I eat. I’m a smart lady and there’s no need to stress! SO be quiet, ultimate worrier Allison.  Continue reading

English Muffins: 5 Ways

When I went grocery shopping this past week, instead of buying whole wheat pitas, I decided to branch out and buy whole wheat english muffins. For the sake of new recipes, I tried to use the english muffins in a plethora of different ways.

I used my english muffins for all breakfast meals (surprise surprise- my love of breakfast strikes again), but I do not discount the fact that english muffin pizzas are AMAZING (they totally are and that has been my favorite way to utilize english muffins for most of my life). ANYWAY. These little guys can be used in a wide variety of creative recipes.

Here is how I used mine:
